Updos

Whether sleek, sophisticated, retro or classic, tips on updos are always among the top requests that stylists at Barron's London Salon receive. Below you will find some of the techniques clients have found helpful in creating their own updo style.

To achieve a hassle free, but sexy updo, start with a ponytail, tip the head forward, twist the ponytail hair together with the fingers, pin up and leave lots of tendrils loose to frame the face. To finish, apply a little gloss like Barex serum to each tendril with fingers, to add shine and definition. Spritz into place with CHI Texturizing spray. Pop in a diamante clip for this season's must have retro look.

TO create "The Knot" updo, go for a loose knot, rather than the more catwalk-suited tight pinhead coil. Start by pulling your hair back into a high pony, backcombing the tail for fullness. Then splay hair outwards rom the center, tucking and pinning random sections into place with hair grips to create a sleek but not-too-perfect shape.

An amazingly sleek updo is picture-perfect in many ways. Super-shiny tresses get their gleam rom a laminating serum applied to damp strands before blow-drying. To sweep tresses into a chic, smooth style, a wide-toothed comb is used to separate the section of long bangs. the bangs are then smoothed and swept off to one side, behind one ear. The rest of the hair is slicked back with a flat paddle brush, and height is infused at the crown by pushing the enclosure forward just slightly.

A complicated series of twists and turns can transform any 'do into a masterpiece! Soft, flowing face-framing locks are allowed to cascade along the face in a soft undulating wave. The rest of the locks are gathered in thick sections and coiled into one ultimate enclosure at the crown. This manages to be sleek and sophisticated without being austere or stiff.

A simple style is to curl hair before pinning up into a mohican through the crown.

Utterly elegant ringlets gathered at the crown are always a winner. First twist small sections of locks into spirals and then pull the curled locks towards the crown. Pin the hair in place, allowing the curls to all softly around the head. A few loose tendrils along the sides of the face complete the look.

Chin length strands are great or simple updos that still look utterly feminine. A simple ponytail looped back under at the nape o the neck is a sleek and simple way to look perfectly sophisticated and glamorous. Loose longish bangs are kept shiny with a touch of laminating serum.

For a funky updo, twist your hair into an enclosure at the crown for a slightly swirled style that is visually unique. Once the locks are in place, use a stylingwax to give the strands that fractured and piecey texturized look. Wrap a small piece of hair around the enclosure to camouflage it.

You can always opt for a modernized French twist for your updo. Allow a few chunky
pieces to escape from the twist to give the twist a new look.
